Comet's 54" Aeronca Chief - SHORT KIT

The Aeronca Chief from Comet's famous 54" wingspan series!

This is the largest kit for the largest model in my inventory!  This is a straight reproduction of the Comet plan/kit.  This includes the original Comet plan, with annotations, and the original parts, laser-cut, on nine sheets of balsa.  After test builds, a small number of pieces were reworked for better fitment. 

Be prepared:  this model takes about 8 sheets of tissue to cover!

 Your model should build easily and fly (practically) fly right off the board!  These things look amazing in the air.  Check out the video of the two prototypes flying early in their testing HERE.

OPTIONAL 3D-PRINTED PROP and PROP SHAFT ASSEMBLY

This is the prop that is on Winn Moore's model.  It is a 16" diameter, 19" Pitch, with a 2" blade width (Larrabee blade profile) with a 3" diameter hub.  This is what we call a "breakaway" prop: not designed to fold in flight, but to flex the blades on contact with the ground to avoid overstressing (and damaging) the prop and the airframe. 

The propeller is printed in gray (only color) ABS and comes assembled with a Superior Props Aluminum Bushing for a 3/32" prop shaft.  Another option is to include the Superior Props 3/32" Prop Shaft Assembly (prop shaft, nose button, ball bearing, spring, and drive dog).  This propeller is not available separately.
